Valerie Hughes, born and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, has made it her personal mission to warn others in the path of severe weather and offer help in the aftermath — a passion forged on the devastating day of April 27th, 2011. Coming from a family of lifelong "weather geeks," Valerie was attending Spotter classes before the age of ten and learned the art of tracking storms from her mother, who worked closely with professionals in the field. Chasing storms across the challenging terrain of central Alabama and Mississippi, Valerie prioritizes safety, smart positioning, and drone footage when conditions allow. She is a proud member of Wicked Weather's chase team and Team Dominator Storm Recovery, and livestreams her chases on Facebook to provide real-time visuals for both the public and news stations. Deeply aware of the communication gaps in rural Alabama, Valerie works tirelessly alongside her mother to deliver early warnings and compassionate aid to communities that need it most. Her heart for service and relentless dedication make her an invaluable part of the weather community.
